Carbohydrates are among the most mentioned things when discussing sports, diet plans, or general health care. But what do you know about it?

Carbohydrates are one of the three primary nutrients along with protein and fats that found in foods and drinks.

Carbohydrates, or carbs, are sugar molecules that the body breaks down to glucose, the main energy source for the body and muscles.

What are the different types of carbohydrates?

There are 2 types of carbs: "simple carbs & complex carbs"

1- simple carbs:

are made up of short chains of molecules and are digested fast to produce a spike in blood glucose, providing the body with a short-lasting energy source.

It is important to notice that there are 2 sources of simple carbs.

Some simple carbohydrates in healthy foods, such as milk and whole fruits, contain necessary vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

But some are also presented in foods with low nutritional value, such as sugary drinks and sweets.

2- Complex carbohydrates

comprise long chains of sugar molecules that take a long time to break down and provide more lasting energy in the body but slowly.

it is also important to notice that there are 2 sources of complex carbs some in healthy foods and whole grains such as "Brown rice, oats, and potato."

and Refined grains are complex carbohydrates but do not contain the bran and germ of the grain, and they have a lower nutritional value.

From the above there is a main question here which type of carbs is the best?

The answer is simple as always

As we have explained that simple carbs produce fast energy for short time which means its better as a pre-workout or before any physical activity or in the morning as you are starting your day.

We also mentioned that complex carbs slowly provides long lasting energy so it would be better to use post-workout or after physical activity or hard working to refuel muscles with glycogen.

So you choose the best for you according to the timing and the target you seek on one condition you use it from the right clean and healthy sources.

For your information recent research shows it’s better to include both types of healthy carbs in your diet, or using supplements blend contains both.
